COMPARISON OF BIOMECHANICAL DIFFERENCES AND TREATMENT EFFICIENCY OF CLEAR ALIGNERS AND LINGUAL ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT

Today, the aesthetic expectations of individuals who will undergo orthodontic treatment have increased greatly. They not only want to have a beautiful smile after the treatment but also do not want to compromise their aesthetics during the treatment as well. The two treatment modalities that provide optimal esthetics during the treatment are lingual orthodontics and clear aligners. However, the advantages and disadvantages of these two treatments against each other are not well known. In this presentation, the biomechanical differences of lingual orthodontics and clear aligners will be explained, and the clinical performances of these two treatment techniques in different malocclusions will be discussed.

Prof. Omur Polat Ozsoy received her Dental Degree from Hacettepe University and her PhD degree in Orthodontics from Selcuk University. She worked as a full-time faculty member at Baskent University between 2004-2017 where she got her professorship. Currently, Dr Ozsoy is working in her private practice. She is an active member of American Association of Orthodontists, World Federation of Orthodontics and European Society of Lingual Orthodontics. Prof. Ozsoy is in the Editorial Board of The Angle Orthodontist and Journal of World Federation of Orthodontics and serves as a reviewer to many national and international journals. Dr. Ozsoy is one of the Editors of the Turkish Version of Clear Aligner Technique book by Sandra Tai. She is a member of Align Technology EMEA region Scientific Advisory Board. Her academic interests include skeletal anchorage, lingual orthodontics, clear aligners, digital technologies and indirect bonding.
