Inadequate Preoperative Evaluation in Implant Treatment

Today, rehabilitation of edentulous jaws with dental implants has become a more accessible treatment option for society. Although the increase in the prevalence of clinical practice has positively reflected on the practice of implantology, the lack of physicians with sufficient training and experience in this field cannot respond to this increasing demand of the society. Complications are consequences that even trained physicians can experience, but it is a scientific fact that a lack of education and experience has led to dramatic increases in these cases. It is known that the leading cause of these complications is inadequate preoperative evaluation in implant treatment. In this presentation, the evaluation and clinical observations about the mistakes made in the preoperative evaluations and their possible consequences and the precautions to be taken will be presented.

Dr. Guhan Dergin was born in 1973 in Izmit. He graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry in 1999. In the same year, he started his specialization in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Marmara University, Faculty of Dentistry. He received his doctoral degree in 2006 with his thesis on implant osseointegration. In 2005, he worked as an invited doctor at the University of North Carolina, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery. He became assistant professor in 2009, associate professor in 2013 and professor in 2020. Dr. Gühan continues his academic career as the Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry. He is also a board member of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Association (ACBID). The professor has been an invited speaker at many national and international congresses, and has organized courses and trainings. He has many articles in international and national scientific journals and chapters in books.
