Interdiciplinary Endodontics

Endodontics is in closly interrilationship with other dental discipline during diagnosis and treatment of endodotically involved teeth. Cracked tooth syndrome (CTS) is a challenge situation for the dentist at the time of diagnosis and treatment. It relates to a variety of symptoms and signs caused by a crack in a tooth. Every practitioner should be aware of the existence of CTS, and the condition must always be considered when a patient complains of pain or discomfort on chewing or biting. Treatment of CTS will depend on the position and extent of the crack. Management options vary according to clinical need, from replacement of the fractured cusp with a simple restoration to placement of an extracoronal restoration with adequate cuspal protection.
Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a relatively new method that produces three-dimensional (3D) information of the maxillofacial skeleton, including the teeth and their surrounding tissue, with a lower effective radiation dose than traditional CT scans. CBCT has great potential to become a valuable tool for diagnosing and managing endodontic problems, as well as for assessing root fractures, apical periodontitis, resorptions, perforations, root canal anatomy and the nature of the alveolar bone topography around teeth.
The root canal and periodontium are in a close relation by the anatomical structures and iatrojenic cause. Endo-perio lesions are challenging for the clinicians in terms of diagnosis and prognosis. It is important to understand the etiology of the lesions to determine the timing and ordering the treatment procedures.
