Can new technologies be a solution for anxiety and pain in children?

Developing technologies introduced many devices and methods for more comfortable treatment of children on dental chair. Virtual reality goggles, computer-smart phone applications, video modelling methods, computer controlled local anesthetic devices, jet injection and vibrating local anesthetic systems are examples of these technologies that aim at relieving anxiety and pain in children. In this presentation, the efficacy of these devices and methods will be discussed in the light of the scientific evidence and the roadmap to follow for anxiety and pain control in children for a more comfortable dental treatment will be clarified.

He completed his undergraduate (1996) and PhD education (2006) at Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry. He worked as faculty member at Yeditepe University, Pedodontics Department in 2006-2013. He joined İstanbul Kent University Faculty of Dentistry as founding faculty member in 2018 and in 2020 he received his title of Professor. His research fields are anxiety and pain control in children and painless local anaesthetic techniques. Dr. Kuşcu was awarded with prizes for his studies at congresses of Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) and European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry in 2019 and 2020, respectively. He’s married with a child.
