Iliac Graft Augmentation in Edentulous Jaws and Management of Complications
Iliac bone augmentation plays an important role among the operations targeting bone gain in oral, dental and maxillofacial surgery. Iliac bone grafts provide successful outcomes in the reconstruction of cases with insufficient bone areas relevant to maxilla and mandible, bone defects secondary to cyst and tumor surgery, ridge resorption after tooth extraction at early ages or congenital missing tooth. However, as in all surgical procedures, some complications may develop due to iliac bone augmentation. These complications may occur in donor site or recipient site. Bleeding, nerve damage, foreign body rejection, postop hematoma, difficulty in walking, iliac bone fracture may occur on donor site while postoperative graft failures may usually occur in the recipient site. In this presentation, we will provide information about adverse events that may develop due to surgical procedure and their treatments.
