IMPRESSION TECHNIQUE AND MATERIAL SELECTION IN IMPLANTOGY

Contrary to natural teeth, osseointegrated implants do not have the capacity to tolerate minor misalignments in prosthetic restorations. Therefore, it is one of the most important factors to achieve a passive alignment in implant supported overdentures for long-term success. A right prosthetic work flow should be used to fabricate a restoration with passive alignment and the first step of this flow is impression. With the fast integration of digital technology into dentistry, digital impressions taken with intraoral scanners are suggested as an strong alternative to conventional impression techniques. Factors such as number of implants, angular differences between implants, implant placement depth influence the impression procedure and thus selection of appropriate impression technique and material for patients may be challenging at clinics for dentists. In this presentation, factors influencing the accuracy of impression will be discussed and tips for selecting impression techniques according to different case scenarios will be provided.
