A NEW INSTRUMENTATION TECHNIQUE IN LOW BONE DENSITY: OSSEODENSIFICATION
Low bone density which is frequently encountered in regions requiring extraction sockets and augmentation including especially posterior maxilla jeopardises implant success. Although techniques such as osteotomy, piezoelectric surgery and reduced osteotomy have been proposed, search for alternatives has continued due to sensitivity to application technique and complications. Osseodensification is based on geometrical modifications made with conventional burrs, pushing bone particles etched by modifying the cutting angle and running counterclockwise towards the socket wall and apical side.
These techniques and especially osseodensification principle as well as procedures for low bone density will be explained in the light of clinical laboratory results.
He graduated from İstanbul University Faculty of Dentistry in 1998 and started his PhD education at the Oral Implantology Department of the same university. He completed his PhD thesis titled ‘’Histological and histomorphological analysis of the efficacy of calcium phosphate based grafting material on peri-implant dehiscence defects’’ conducted jointly with Nijmegen University, the Netherlands in 2003. He worked as a visiting professor at Oulu University, Finland and FH Campus Wien University, Austria. At present, he works as a Professor at the same department. He owns 2 international patents.
